A syndet, not just a soap: Sodium cocoyl isethionate cleans closer to skin pH than the soap salts around it.

Mild enough for a shaved neck. A good soap for men has to survive contact with skin a blade went over that morning.

Kojic acid and arbutin, both present: They work on tone over months, and only where you actually put the lather.

Low lather is the design, not a fault: Stearate soap and syndets both foam less than coconut-led bars. Cleaning does not come from bubbles.

No deodorant and no antibacterial in it: If you want a bar that handles body odour after the gym, this is not that bar.

Twenty ingredients. Three are soap salts, one is a synthetic detergent, and that combination is what separates this bar from every other one we make.

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate — A synthetic detergent, not a soap. It is what lets a bar clean at a pH your face does not object to.

Sodium Linoleate — The soft one. Linoleic soap conditions rather than strips, and it is why the bar wears down faster than a palm-heavy one.

Shea Butter — Eleventh on the list, so a small amount. In a bar its job is to slow the lather and make it creamy.

Calendula Extract — Marigold. Soothing for most people, but part of the daisy family, so worth avoiding if ragweed or chamomile bothers you.

Milk protein is in here too, the third product in our range to carry it. If dairy sets your skin off, this bar is not for you, and the same warning applies to our Body Lotion and the Gold Plus bar. Nothing in the formula fights odour either, so treat it as a face and neck bar and keep something cheaper for the shower.

Sodium Stearate, Aqua, Vegetable Palm Oil, Sodium Palmitate, Sodium Linoleate, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Cocyl Isethionate, Milk Protein, Titanium Dioxide, Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Calendula Extract, Kojic Acid Dipalmitate, Vitamin B3, Vitamin E, Arbutin, Aloe Vera and & Tetrasodium Etidronate, Fragrance.

1. Lather in wet hands rather than rubbing the bar directly on your face.
2. Work the foam over face and neck for twenty to thirty seconds.
3. Rinse fully, especially along the jaw where lather collects and dries.
4. Pat dry and moisturise while the skin is still slightly damp.
5. Once or twice a day. If you shave in the morning, wash before the shave, not after.
6. Stand it somewhere it can drain. A linoleate-rich bar softens fast in a wet dish.

Is this actually different from a normal bar of soap?

Yes, chemically. Most bars are entirely soap salts made from oil and lye. This one has sodium cocoyl isethionate in it, which is a synthetic detergent rather than a soap, and it brings the wash closer to the pH your skin prefers. That is the same trick behind the cleansing bars sold in the skincare aisle.

Is a 100g bar too big for face-only use?

It is generous, and it will last a long time on a face. That is not a bad thing at this price. If you want the actives to be doing something, keep it for face and neck. Washing your whole body with it just sends the kojic acid down the drain faster.

Will it help with dark marks left by shaving?

Slowly, and only as support. Kojic acid dipalmitate and arbutin both slow pigment production, but they are near the end of the list and on your skin for half a minute. If ingrown-hair marks along the jaw are the problem, a leave-on cream will do the real work and this bar keeps the area clean without irritating it.

Does it work as a shaving lather?

It will lather and you can shave over it, but it is not built for that. A proper shaving cream is designed to hold water against the hair and give the blade something to glide on. Use this to wash beforehand, then a shaving product, then rinse.

Should I expect big bubbles from it?

No, and that is deliberate. Sodium stearate and sodium cocoyl isethionate both produce a dense, low, creamy lather rather than a foamy one. Coconut-heavy bars bubble far more and strip far more at the same time. Lather is a texture people have learned to expect, not a measure of how clean you are getting.

Does it deal with body odour?

No better than any soap. There is no antibacterial, no deodorant and no zinc in this formula. It removes the sweat and oil that bacteria feed on, which is most of the battle, but if you need something that lingers, this bar is the wrong choice.

I am dairy-intolerant. Does that matter here?

Possibly. Milk protein is listed, and while a food intolerance is not the same thing as a skin reaction, people with a true dairy allergy can react to it topically. If you have one, skip this bar. Our Cleanser Soap has no milk protein in it.

Is it worth the price over a supermarket bar?

It depends what you want from it. As a body soap, honestly, no — a plain bar cleans just as well for less. As a mild, low-pH face and neck bar with two tone ingredients in it, yes, because that combination is not what you find on a supermarket shelf.
