• Three plant oils, three different weights. Rosehip, grape seed and avocado each absorb at a different speed, so the cream sinks in stages.
• Built for skin that gets shaved. A good face cream for men has to work on skin that a blade exfoliates several times a week.
• The tone actives are the same ones we use elsewhere. Kojic acid dipalmitate, alpha arbutin, glutathione and licorice, unchanged from our other creams.
• Twenty-three grams is a face-only jar. Roughly two months at a pea per night on face and jaw. It is not a body cream.
• No SPF, despite the box. There is no sunscreen filter here, so you still need one — especially with an acid in the jar.

Twenty-two ingredients. The brightening half of the list is shared with our other creams; the plant oils are what this one adds.

Rosehip Oil — Linoleic-rich and light. It carries small natural amounts of vitamin A compounds, which is why it turns up in scar and mark products.

Grape Seed and Avocado Oil — Grape seed is light and absorbs fast; avocado is heavy and oleic-rich. Layering two weights is unusual in a jar this small.

Lactic Acid — A mild AHA. On a face shaved that morning it has a much easier route in, and a much easier route to stinging.

Lanolin Alcohol — Wool-derived and a well-known contact allergen. Worth a patch test on the jaw before you put it on freshly shaved skin.

Zinc Oxide — Mildly astringent and calming where a blade has scraped. In a leave-on it stays put rather than rinsing away.

The carton says the cream protects against sun and pollution. There is no filter of any kind in it, so it does neither. It also says it heals acne. Kojic acid, arbutin and lactic acid work on the marks a spot leaves behind, not on the spot itself. Neither claim is used anywhere on this page.

1. Shave first, then wash, then wait. The order matters more than the time of day.
2. Give shaved skin about ten minutes before the cream goes on. Straight after a blade is when the lactic acid stings most.
3. Take a pea-sized amount and warm it between your fingers before it touches your face.
4. Press it over cheeks, forehead and jaw. Do not work it into a fresh nick.
5. Nights only for the first two weeks. Add a morning application once you know how your skin takes it.
6. If you shave every day, start on the two nights a week when you have not, then build up.
7. Sunscreen every morning. There is none in this jar, and an acid makes that matter more.

What actually makes a face cream ‘for men’?

In most of the market, the box. Here it is three plant oils that our other creams do not carry, and the fact that the routine advice is written around shaving. Male facial skin is thicker and oilier on average, but the real difference is mechanical: a blade over the same skin several times a week.

Should I put it on before or after shaving?

After, with a gap. Shaving takes off the top layer of dead cells, so anything applied straight afterwards goes in faster and stings more. Wash, wait about ten minutes for the skin to settle, then apply. Applying before a shave just puts a wax layer between the blade and your face.

The box says it makes skin fair. Does it?

It will not change your natural colour, and no cream will. What kojic acid dipalmitate, arbutin and glutathione do is slow the pigment your skin makes in response to sun and irritation, which over months can even out patchiness and fade old marks. That is a real result, and it is not the same thing as fairness.

Is it too heavy if my face is already oily?

Probably. Petrolatum sits second on the list and there are three oils behind it. If your T-zone shines by midday, this is the wrong cream in our range for you and one of the lighter ones will suit better. If your face is dry, tight or flaky after shaving, it is the right one.

Does it help with razor bumps and ingrown hairs?

Indirectly at best. The lactic acid gently loosens dead cells at the surface, which is the same mechanism that reduces ingrowns over time. But this is a low, unmeasured amount in a cream, not a treatment. Persistent razor bumps need better shaving technique first and a proper leave-on acid second.

Is it the same formula as the Face Fresh Beauty Cream?

Close, not identical. The brightening ingredients are the same. This version adds rosehip, grape seed and avocado oil plus stearic acid, and leaves out the mulberry extract. The difference is texture and richness, not what it does to tone.

Does it protect against sun or pollution?

No. The carton says so and the carton is wrong. There is no UV filter and no antioxidant claim we could stand behind in this formula. Use a separate sunscreen every morning — more so with a cream like this, because fading marks while collecting new sun damage cancels itself out.

Can women use it, or is that just branding?

They can. There is nothing male-specific in the chemistry, and the brightening ingredients are shared with our other creams. The oils make it a richer option than the Beauty Cream, so it suits dry skin of any kind. The name reflects who it was packaged for, not who it works on.
