• No antibacterial agent in it: Deliberately. Germ removal comes from twenty seconds of rubbing and rinsing, not from an added biocide.
• A liquid, not a foaming hand wash: One push of the pump gives enough for two hands, where a foamer usually takes three.
• Holds up in hard water: Disodium EDTA and citric acid stop the lather collapsing, which is where cheap hand washes fail.
• Four hundred millilitres by a busy sink: A family kitchen bottle lasts roughly six weeks; one person’s bathroom bottle, about four months.

Fifteen ingredients. The most useful thing about this list is what is not on it.

No antibacterial agent — No triclosan, no benzalkonium chloride, no added biocide — which is what health authorities recommend for everyday domestic washing.

Glycerin and panthenol — The pair that make repetition survivable. Both stay behind after rinsing, which matters far more in a hand wash than a shower gel.

Disodium EDTA and citric acid — A chelator and an acid. They bind the minerals in hard water so the surfactants keep foaming, and hold a sensible pH.

Sodium cocoyl glutamate — An amino-acid cleanser that softens the sulphate above it. It is why this does not feel like washing-up liquid by the tenth wash.

Two honest points. First, this is not a sanitiser and should not be treated as one — if you need to disinfect rather than clean, alcohol gel is the product for that. Second, no hand wash prevents the dryness that comes from washing hands twenty times in an air-conditioned office. Glycerin and panthenol reduce it; a hand cream after the last wash of the day is what fixes it. If your knuckles are already cracked, wash less often in hot water rather than looking for a gentler soap.

1.  Wet hands first. Neat wash on dry skin uses more product and rinses less cleanly.
2.  One pump is enough for two adult hands.
3.  Rub for twenty seconds — backs of hands, between fingers, around the thumbs and under the nails.
4.  Rinse thoroughly and dry properly. Damp hands chap faster than washed ones.
5.  Keep a hand cream next to the bottle for the last wash before bed.
6. The twenty seconds matter more than the product. That is the part doing the germ removal, and it is the part almost everyone skips.

Can you use hand soap as body wash?

In an emergency, yes — the chemistry is close enough that nothing bad happens. Two practical problems: a pump built for a teaspoon takes a long time to cover a body, and hand washes are made for skin washed constantly rather than large areas.

Can body wash be used as hand soap?

Also yes, and this is the more sensible direction of the two. Body wash is usually cheaper by volume and milder. The catch is the bottle — a shower gel cap by a kitchen sink means wet hands fumbling with a lid. If you are going to do it, decant it into a pump.

Is hand soap the same as body wash?

Not identical, but closer than the marketing suggests. Hand washes carry more humectants because hands are washed constantly; body washes carry more fragrance and refatting agents because they cover more skin. Put our two Yusma labels side by side and the overlap is obvious.

Does body wash work as hand soap for removing germs?

Yes. Germ removal is mechanical — the surfactant lifts oil and dirt off the skin and the water carries it away. Any proper wash does that. What matters is the twenty seconds of rubbing and a thorough rinse, not which bottle it came from or whether it says antibacterial on the front.

Why is there no antibacterial in it?

Because for everyday home use it adds nothing. Regulators in several markets removed triclosan and similar ingredients from consumer washes after reviewing the evidence, and plain soap plus proper technique performs the same job. An added biocide mainly gives people a reason to rub for five seconds instead of twenty.

Is this a luxury hand wash?

It is a well-made everyday one. There is a fragrance, an apple fruit extract and a colour in it, which is what puts a hand wash on a guest basin rather than under a sink. It is not a niche perfumed wash, and we would rather say so than charge for the word.

Is it a natural hand wash?

No, and we would not describe it that way. The cleansing base is synthetic, there is a phenoxyethanol preservative and an added colour. Those are ordinary, well-understood ingredients — they are simply not what ‘natural’ means, and the word is unregulated enough that most products using it would not survive this question either.

How long does a 400ml bottle last?

At a kitchen sink used by a family of four, around six weeks. At a bathroom basin used by one adult, three to four months. If it is emptying faster than that, the pump is probably dispensing more than one wash needs — most do.
