Description

As a vitamin C serum for dark circles this is a face ampoule, not an eye cream, which changes how you use it. It carries 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid, a stable form of vitamin C, third on the ingredient list. It layers under a daytime cream from the same brand.

Benefits

  • A stable form of vitamin C: 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid sits third and does not brown in the bottle the way pure ascorbic acid does.
  • Water-thin, so it layers: No oils, no silicones, nothing that pills under sunscreen or makeup an hour later.
  • Four hydrators behind the vitamin C: Sodium PCA, panthenol, sodium hyaluronate and beta glucan all hold water, which matters under the eye.
  • A morning product, unlike most ampoules: Vitamin C works alongside sunscreen, so this one earns its place before the day rather than after it.
  • Niacinamide is in here too: The old advice about never combining it with vitamin C has not held up, and this formula assumes as much.

Ingredients

3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid — an ethylated vitamin C that stays stable in water, and the ingredient here with a real role in collagen production.

Collagen — the reason this sells as a collagen face serum. Too large to get into skin, so it sits on the surface holding water.

Niacinamide — pairs fine with vitamin C. The warning against mixing them came from lab conditions, not from what happens on a face.

Sodium Hyaluronate — the salt form of hyaluronic acid, smaller and easier to dissolve, which is why vitamin C ampoules use it rather than the acid.

Sodium PCA, Panthenol and Beta Glucan — three quiet hydrators. In a vit c collagen serum they are what stops the acid feeling tight.

Full ingredients (INCI, as printed on the pack):

Aqua, Propylene Glycol, 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium PCA, D-Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carbomer, Beta Glucan, Collagen, Niacinamide, Triethanolamine & Phenoxyethanol.

How To Use

  1. Morning, on clean dry skin, before anything else goes on.
  2. Three or four drops covers the whole face.
  3. Under the eye, stay on the bone. Not the lid, and not up to the lash line.
  4. Let it dry for a minute.
  5. Moisturiser, then sunscreen. The sunscreen is not optional with vitamin C.
  6. Store it away from light and heat, and finish it within about three months.

If it tingles under the eye, mix a drop into your moisturiser for the first fortnight instead.

FAQs

How to reduce dark circles under eyes?

Work out which kind you have. Pull the skin gently sideways: if the darkness stays put, it is pigment, and vitamin C can help. If it fades as you pull, it is blood vessels showing through thin skin, and no serum fixes that. Tilt your chin up towards a mirror: if the shadow lifts, it is the hollow beneath your eye. The wider picture on dark circles covers all three.

Can you reduce dark circles naturally at home?

Some of it. Sleep, less salt in the evening, treating hay fever and a cold spoon on the eye all reduce puffiness, and puffiness casts shadow. What people usually mean by how to reduce dark circles naturally at home is cucumber or potato slices, and those do nothing beyond being cold. Daily sunscreen is the one free thing that genuinely changes pigmented circles.

What does vitamin C serum do for face skin?

Three things, mostly. It interferes with pigment production, it acts as a required cofactor when your skin builds collagen, and it neutralises some of the daily damage from sun and pollution. On tone the effect is slow, measured in months rather than weeks. There is more on what vitamin C does over a longer run.

Is it safe to use near the eyes?

This is a face ampoule and not an eye product, so use it carefully. Stay on the bone below the eye rather than the soft lid, and keep clear of the lash line. Vitamin C can sting there. If your eyes water, or the skin looks pink the next morning, mix a drop into your moisturiser instead.

Does the collagen in it boost my own collagen?

No, and it is the most common misunderstanding about products like this. Collagen is a large protein that cannot cross into skin. On the surface it holds water and softens fine lines, which is not the same thing. The vitamin C in the same bottle is the ingredient with an actual role in collagen production. For firmness specifically, the ampoule built for that is the better fit.

Morning or night?

Morning. Vitamin C and sunscreen work better together than either does alone, and there is nothing in this formula that the sun will spoil. If you already use a retinol at night, putting the vitamin C in the morning keeps the two apart without you having to think about it.

How long before I see anything?

Hydration shows in a day or two, and that is the sodium hyaluronate and beta glucan rather than the vitamin C. Pigment shifts far more slowly, so give it at least two months of daily use with sunscreen. If your circles turn out to be vascular or structural rather than pigmented, no amount of time will change them.

Can I use it with retinol or an exfoliating acid?

Separate them by time of day rather than by week. Vitamin C in the morning, the retinol in this line at night, and an exfoliating acid no more than twice a week on nights you skip the retinol. Stacking all three around the eye is how people end up with irritation they then blame on the vitamin C.
