Twenty-two ingredients, and five of them are cleansers. Read top to bottom, this is the strongest wash Face Fresh makes.

Menthol — It binds a cold receptor called TRPM8. Your skin is not cooler; your nerves are reporting that it is.

Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate — The mildest cleanser here. It keeps foaming in hard water, which is useful across the Gulf.

Cocamide DEA — A foam booster. DEA compounds are restricted in several markets, and we would rather this one were not in the formula.

Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract — German chamomile, and the only genuinely soothing thing in a tube otherwise built for stripping. It sits eighteenth, so expect little.

Nothing in this tube exfoliates. There is no acid, no scrub and no enzyme, so it cleans deeply and resurfaces nothing. With five cleansers in one formula, once a day is the sensible dose, and twice is how people end up with skin that is somehow both tight and shiny by evening.

1. Lukewarm water. Hot water plus five surfactants is more than any face needs.
2. A small squeeze. It foams heavily, and most people use about three times what they need.
3. Twenty seconds, then rinse until the skin stops feeling slippery.
4. Once a day, at night, for the first two weeks.
5. Add a morning wash only if there has been no tightness by then.
6. Moisturise afterwards even if your face is oily. Especially then.
7. Keep it away from the eyes. Menthol stings badly there and will not rinse out quickly.

What actually makes a face wash better for men?

Less than the marketing suggests. Male skin is on average thicker and produces more oil, so a slightly stronger cleanse is often tolerated. Beyond that, most of what separates a men’s wash from any other is the fragrance, the packaging and a cooling agent. Judge it on how your face feels an hour later, not on the box.

Why does it tingle?

Menthol. It binds to a receptor in your nerve endings called TRPM8, the same one that responds to genuine cold. Your brain reads that signal as cool and fresh. The temperature of your skin has not changed and nothing extra has been cleaned — it is a real sensation attached to no cleaning benefit.

Is the cooling doing anything for my skin?

Not directly. Menthol has a mild counter-irritant effect, which can make itching feel less urgent for a few minutes. It can also irritate skin that is already compromised, and it stings badly near the eyes. Enjoy it as a sensory thing rather than a functional one.

My face feels tight afterwards. Is that it working?

No, it is the opposite. That tight, squeaky feeling means the wash has taken more lipid than your barrier could spare. With five cleansing systems in one formula that is easy to do. Cut to once a day, shorten the wash, use cooler water and moisturise straight after.

Can I use it after shaving?

Better before. Shaving removes the top layer of dead cells, so a strong wash immediately afterwards goes further in than you want and the menthol will make it obvious. Wash first, shave second, rinse with cool water, then moisturise.

What if my skin is dry in winter but oily in summer?

Then use this one seasonally. That pattern is common in air-conditioned climates, where the indoor air is very dry and the outdoor air is not. Keep this tube for the hotter months and switch to something milder when your skin starts feeling tight after washing.

Does it exfoliate?

No. There is no acid, no scrub particle and no enzyme in this formula. It removes oil and surface dirt thoroughly, which can leave skin looking momentarily smoother, but nothing here loosens dead cells. If you want that, it has to come from a leave-on product.

How does it compare with the Men Beauty Soap?

They do different jobs. The bar is mild, has kojic acid and arbutin in it, and is the better daily choice for most faces. This tube is the stronger clean, better suited to heavy oil, sweat or a working day outdoors. Plenty of people own both and use the wash only when they need it.
