Face wash vs cleanser — is there any real difference?
Not a meaningful one. Both are rinse-off products that remove oil, sweat and dirt. In practice, brands say cleanser when the texture is creamy and face wash when it foams, but there is no rule and no regulator enforcing it. Ours is called both on the tube, which is at least accurate.
Will this clear active acne?
No, and we would rather say so. Salicylic acid needs to stay on the skin to work inside a pore, and a wash is rinsed off. If you have red, raised, painful spots, a leave-on treatment or a visit to a dermatologist will do far more than any cleanser. This wash is a support step, not the treatment.
My spots healed but the brown marks stayed. Is that what this is for?
Yes. Those flat brown patches are post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and they are a tone problem rather than an acne problem. Kojic acid dipalmitate, alpha arbutin and vitamin B3 all slow pigment production. In a rinse-off the effect is modest, so pair the wash with a leave-on product and expect months, not weeks.
Why is there no salicylic acid percentage on the tube?
Because the manufacturer has not published one, and we will not print a number we cannot verify. What we can tell you is its position: fifteenth of eighteen ingredients, which places it below the preservative. Treat it as a low, cosmetic level rather than the two per cent you see on medicated washes.
Can I use it alongside a retinol or an exfoliating cream?
Usually yes, because the acid here is low and rinses away. The risk is stacking. If you already use an acid cream or a retinol at night, use this wash in the morning only for the first few weeks and watch for tightness, flaking or stinging.
Is it strong enough for back and chest breakouts?
You can use it there, though 60ml will not go far on a back. The bigger issue is the same as on the face: a wash does not stay on the skin long enough to unblock much. For body breakouts, a leave-on product and dry clothing after sweating will do more.
My skin feels tight afterwards. What should I change?
First, drop to once a day. Second, use lukewarm rather than hot water, and cut the massage time to fifteen seconds. Third, moisturise while damp. If the tightness continues after a week of that, the sulphate in this formula is probably not for you and a creamier, non-foaming cleanser will suit better.
Where does this sit next to the rest of the Cleanser range?
It is the daily step. The Cleanser Cream in the same range has no detergent in it at all and carries a much heavier dose of kojic acid dipalmitate, so it behaves more like a treatment. The soap sits between the two. Most people use the wash daily and one of the others as their active step.
